The history of Mercedes Benz
Did you know that Carl Benz not only invented the passenger car with a combustion engine, but also built the first truck? That was in 1896, not much later his competitor Gottlieb Daimler also built his first truck. In 1926 the companies of the two merged to form Mercedes-Benz.
Trucks with a pedigree! That pedigree did not stop in 1926, later several other manufacturers were taken over, of which Freightliner, Unimog, Setra, Western Star, Hanomag-Henschel, Fuso and Saurer are just a few examples. New brands were also founded, such as BharatBenz in India and Rizon for electric trucks. But there was also a separation: Daimler Truck has recently become completely independent and is no longer part of the van and passenger car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. Of course, the name and the star are still proudly displayed.
After legendary trucks such as the Kurzhauber, NG, SK, Ecoliner, Axor, Antos and LP, the program in Europe in 2025 consists of the Atego, Arocs, Econic, Zetros and above all of course the Actros (with or without the striking Pro Cabin). With the exception of the Zetros, these are also all available in electric versions.
Mercedes-Benz won the International Truck of the Year election in 2025, 2020, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2004, 1999, 1997, 1990 and 1985, more often than anyone else.
