Brief History MAN Trucks in Europe and MAN worldwide
MAN Truck & Bus (now officially without dots in the name) is one of the leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles in Europe with production locations in four European countries and in India. “M.A.N.” originated early in the 19th century as Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg AG and can be seen as one of the pioneers in the field of trucks and tractors. Through mergers and acquisitions (including Büssing, Steyr, Star, Neoplan, ERF and ÖAF), this company grew into the MAN we know today.
In World War II they built trucks for the German army. During this war, MAN was severely impacted by the Allied bombing. Nevertheless, from 1945, the normal production of vehicles was resumed and MAN recovered again. They tried to increase their profits and even produced the first (V8) turbo diesel in 1951. So for everybody that loves the sound of the V8 engine. You’ve got to thank MAN trucks as they were the original producers. Did you know that MAN was one of the developers of the Diesel engine? In 1897 MAN Trucks cooperated with dr. Rudolpf Diesel to manufacture the first engine a little more than 20 years later they started to produce commercial vehicles like trucks. This led to the presentation of the first MAN truck with diesel engine in 1924. Since the beginning, quality and innovative technology are the standards for the vehicles they produce and deliver. Thus, M.A.N. may use the title vehicle of the year in the Netherlands for several truck types. These are:

In 2025, the MAN range consists of the MAN TGE van, developed together with Volkswagen, the light MAN TGL, the medium-heavy MAN TGM, and in the heavy series the MAN TGS with narrow cab and MAN TGX with wide cab. There are several companies active that convert MAN chassis for special tasks or to better align it with local legislation. Wierda Voertuig Techniek and Toni Maurer are the best-known examples.

Different Types MAN trucks for sale

As we mentioned before the MAN TGL was named truck of the year in 2006. The engines range from 150 to 250 HP and the drive technology and ecology has been vastly improved with innovative exhaust gas recirculation and common rail injection system. The exterior of the TGL MAN trucks have improved aerodynamics and the interior have comfortable seats and attractive multifunction steering wheels which are fitted as standard with the L and LX cabs.
