Renault trucks, een lange geschiedenis van een efficiënt merk.
In 1898 bouwt Louis Renault zijn eerste auto, waarop hij samen met zijn broers een jaar later een bedrijf opricht om die professioneel te gaan bouwen. Al snel gaan ze ook bedrijfswagens bouwen. In 1955 fuseert de bedrijfswagentak van het bedrijf met Latil en Somua tot SAVIEM. Toen truckfabrikanten Berliet en Saviem in de jaren ’70 samen gingen, ging men verder onder de naam van het moederbedrijf: Renault. Begin jaren ’80 werd Mack in de USA gekocht. Rond 2000 hield Renault grote uitverkoop. De tractorafdeling ging naar Claas, de bussen naar Irisbus (nu IVECO) en de trucks werden een volwaardige Volvo dochter. Dat heeft als voordelen dat de trucks aan dezelfde kwaliteits- en veiligheidseisen voldoen als die van het Zweedse moederbedrijf. Uiteraard wordt er technisch samen veel ontwikkeld, maar de cabines blijven door Renault zelf ontwikkeld worden. Met succes: de cabine van de D-serie (ooit ontwikkeld voor de Midlum) wordt ook door diverse andere fabrikanten toegepast, zoals Volvo (FL, FE en VM), DAF (LF en XB), Tatra (T810), Rába, Peecon, Mol, Emoss, Thomas, Kenworth, Peterbilt en uiteraard Mack. Naast de D-serie heeft Renault anno 2025 ook de zware T-serie, ruige K-serie en voor de bouw de C-serie in het programma.
Renault is diverse keren Truck of the Year geworden, de laatste keer in 2015 met de T-serie, maar ook in 1991 (de legendarische Renault AE Magnum) en in 1983 (met de G-serie) ging het felbegeerde beeldje naar Frankrijk.
