      DAF Trucks, kwaliteit van Nederlandse bodem.

      Op 1 april 1928 richten Hub en Wim van Doorne hun bedrijf op, ze zijn gevestigd in de smederij van een brouwerij in Eindhoven. Fun fact: in dit gebouw is nu het DAF museum gevestigd. De naam van het bedrijf: Van Doorne’s Aanhangwagen Fabriek, maar al vanaf dag 1 bouwen ze veel meer dan alleen aanhangwagens en opleggers. In de periode van wederopbouw na de Tweede Wereldoorlog begint DAF met de fabricage van trucks en bussen, waarbij grote leger-orders het bedrijf op dat vlak snel groot maken. Met de DAF 2600 komen de eerste internationale successen. Eind jaren ’80 komt de DAF 95 op de markt. De cabine van deze truck is samen met Pegaso ontwikkeld, waarbij goed naar de wensen van de chauffeurs is geluisterd. Deze cabine wordt enkele malen gefacelift, de laatste versie is nog steeds in productie, onder andere in de fabrieken in Taiwan en Brazilië.

      In 1986 neemt DAF de Britse bedrijfswagengigant Leyland over, in de Leyland fabriek worden nu nog steeds de lichte modellen gebouwd voor de hele wereld. In 1996 wordt DAF op haar beurt zelf overgenomen, door Paccar. Het is daarom een zustermerk van Kenworth en Peterbilt. Vele bedrijven gebruiken DAF componenten, zo kunnen we DAF en Paccar motoren niet alleen in vrachtwagens en bussen tegen komen, maar ook in landbouwvoertuigen, bouwmachines, hijskranen en boten.

      In 2021 komt DAF met een compleet nieuwe range op de markt de nieuwe XF, de XG en de XG+. De laatste heeft de grootste cabine op de markt, waarmee DAF handig in heeft gespeeld op de nieuwste Europese wetgeving. Later volgen ook de middelzware DAF XD en de lichte DAF XB. In 2024 krijgt de hele reeks nog een grote onderhuidse update en een kleine optische facelift, zodat DAF weer jaren mee kan met, en in sommige gevallen zelfs voorloopt op, de concurrentie.
